What is a minimum viable product?

A minimum viable product, or MVP, is a limited product or service experience used to test whether a defined customer can receive the intended value. Its scope should be small enough to learn quickly and complete enough to support a meaningful task.

How to use this concept

Begin with one use case and observe actual use. Record completion, problems, support needs, and whether the customer returns. A prototype can explore an interaction without providing the full service; an MVP should be scoped around the value you need to test. Neither a launch nor a long feature list establishes that the customer problem is solved.
